I think what makes the difference from these to what is a now day serial killer is the (as stated) folklore that has evolved around them.
It is very difficult for the modern day person to truely equate their lives to that of those living around the times they were.
It is easy enough to place yourself in semi-modern Europe and equate to what would happen to you if Hilter came busting through, or someone that breaks into a dorm and rapes and kills college women with blond hair.
A lot more difficult for the imagination to wander back a few more hundred years when London was constantly covered in a black smog due to coal fires, battle fields of France with Nepolean comgin at you, the Wild Wild west where you needed to fear Indian and other scoundrels killing you just for your boots, or even further back to times when the common person was living in a thatch house along with the farm animals to stay warm - looking up at the castle where the lady of the manor kept taking your virgins; never to come back.
I think our lack of intelligence as a human race (those that forget history are doomed to repeat it) allows this to become acceptable. Give the Hitler's, Dahmers, Mansons, and Gacy's a few hundred years and I am sure what they have done in recent times will look as child's play to what is going on in the world then. I shudder at the thought that in the future the actions of these people will become less impactful, but that is the manner of the human race. You can only equate what you know to that you have experienced.

and where do ya draw the line?
if we get Dahmer, why not rapists and child molesters?
I'm not saying we should, PLEASE do not misunderstand...
dunno if I made my point clearly, sometimes it's hard to express what's in my head.
and I agree with the folklore thought. these characters are almost fictional to me.

WOW.....Just...WOW....Do any of you think this thread would get such intelligent, well thought out answers on the white board? This thread alone proves what a great board this is!!!
I remember some heated debates over this topic before, and now the door has opened for such figures. I guess time does heal......but is that a good thing? All that means is that people forget things that were important once.
...Makes me wonder if there will be a World Trade Center version of Jenga in 100 years...

Actually, both Frankenstein's monster and Dracula's folklores and myths are based on real life people or events. Werewolves too, but they weren't known as werewolves or Lycans then.. It was the wolfman, or man wolf that it originally came from, and that was based on a real life person as well, if I remember correctly he (can't remember his name) has a certain disorder where his hair grew faster and thicker then a normal persons, and it was body hair included.

From what I know, Frankenstein was written my Mary Shelley at a party where there was a contest to write a story within a certain time period. She came up with that story and then fleshed it out..pardon the pun. was there some basis for her story idea in the news? BTW: Frankenstein only killed by accident, so he wasn't really evil by definition.
I really wonder what killers would make it as an acceptable doll 100 years from now?
BTW: put two tits and a red bra on Dracula, and we have a hot new CC: exclusive!! LMAO.

I believe she did use something from the news that was going around at the time, or something she had heard previously and used it to flesh her story out, but I don't remember the exact details... LMAO!!!!

Yeah, don't I wish
I'd be the real life dracula or immortal if that were the case.
Then I'd have everybody hounding me to tell them my secrets!
